This post strays fairly far from what I normally post, but I found it to be interesting enough to share with everyone who follows my blog.
The past couple days have seen massive protests on University Ave here in Toronto. The Tamil population have been protesting for Barack Obama to somehow take action and stop the armed conflict in Sri Lanka. This has accumulated into a constant 48 hr protest/plea, closing down University Ave, and loud drum-banging and yelling at all hours.
First things first - even though blogs are very much opinion-based writing, I want to make it clear that I have very little opinion about this conflict. I am definitely not educated enough on the topic of Sri Lankan history, past or current. I DO know that, in most cases, there are 2 sides to a story. If you want to learn more about this entire crisis, than please do some of your own research and Googling - you will not find it here. I encourage you to check it out, even if it's on biased-based news coverage stations such as CNN or BBC.
My job is to take photographs - to show people the world around me and what's going on in my life - I happen to live near University and everything that is/was taking place (I presume they have cleared out and gone home by now, judging by the rainy weather and lack of noise), so I decided to take a few snaps.
I love the idea of war/protest/current event photojournalism, and this is but a very small opportunity to go take a few shots for myself.
Here are a few - I DO have a slight issue with getting such young children involved in protests such as these, when they can't possibly know a complete history of the conflict themselves, but I will save that for another day, and let you judge for yourself.
