This past weekend I had the GREAT pleasure to see one of Toronto's up-and-coming bluegrass/roots/rock bands - a 4-piece known as The Shotgun Wedding Band.
This show was their official CD release party for Toronto. They played a fantastic headlining set to a packed house at Rancho Relaxo, before taking off on a small tour to play for crowds in Ottawa and Montreal.
These guys - and gal - are so full of energy and stories to tell - I HIGHLY suggest checking out their mySpace page - http://www.myspace.com/jamesplouffe.
Their combination of guitar, violin, bass, and drums are played with great finesse, and their live show is definitely something to see!
I really can't describe their sound - you must listen for yourselves. Think Tom Waits exchanging his piano for guitar, with violin and deep bass notes to lead him along.
To make the night more special - it was the violinist, Raha's, birthday!
Go check them out if you ever get the chance!
Here are a couple shots from that night - I wasn't focused on shooting, so only a few were snapped.
